ICT In-Service Training: ICT Based Teaching of English, Mathematics and Sciences: Process, Content & Tools for Teachers and Administrators

TRAINING DESCRIPTION:

This is a school based two days in-service training for the NON-IT principals, coordinators, and teachers. It is designed to build the readiness of both school administrators and teachers to discover, plan, realize, assess, and sustain the align use of computer application and web-based learning content in achieving the learning performance criteria in English, Mathematics, and Sciences.

The training workshop is conducted in the school or school district level in order to properly contextualize the instructional experience based on the available computer access devices, computer software, Internet connection, and technology literacy of all the teachers, coordinators, and principal.

The ICT based teaching and learning lecture presentation, walk-through demonstration, and the collaborative hands-on activities bring understanding, application, and evaluation on how to make available and to use effectively the publicly available digital resources in order to improve the instructional condition of making the students achieve the learning performance objectives defined by the basic education learning competency standards in English, Mathematics and Sciences.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the two days in-service training the participants must be able to explain:

1. The learning principles applied in valuing the use of technology in teaching and learning
2. The value proposition of using freely available computer applications and web services as the learning condition.
3. The simple but effective process of reviewing, aligning, re-purposing of web based digital learning materials.
4. The standard-based references to identify the ICT4E competency requirements of 21st century learners.
5. The meaning of desktop computing and cloud computing, and how to use them.

And the participants must be able to do the following:

1. Execute the basic procedures in working with the computer device and Internet
2. Browse the content of publicly available computer applications and web services for education
3. Find, test and review,re-purpose and use computer applications and web based digital content
4. Create on-line account in order to publish, interact, and collaborate inside the Internet, anywhere and anytime.
5. Formulate the instructional plan that contains the use of ICT based instructional resources

TRAINING TOPICS


DAY 1:

8:30 - 10:30 Morning
Topic 1: Learning Vision and the ICT Usage Principles

- Elaboration of the applicable learning principles to be embodied in the acquisition and use of technology in the school in order to realize the contextual achievement of education for all, and the performance indicators of the basic education sector reform agenda.

- Formulation of the goal statements that appropriately define the directives in making technology as part of the learning condition for the learner to realize the learning performance objectives of the curriculum.

11:00 - 12:00 Morning
Topic 2. Instructional Planning for ICT Based Learning

-Identify the simple methodology, process, metrics, and tools that the teachers and administrators must define and agree in doing the planning, designing and implementation of the ICT-based learning events in the school.

-Execute the process of formulating the ICT enhanced lesson plan

1:30 - 3:00 Afternoon

Topic 3. ICT in Teaching and Learning Competency Standards

-Define the essential knowledge, skills, behaviour required of an e-citizen called teachers, students and administrators according to the best practice standards.

-Perform the start-up skills to interface with the computer devices and Internet browser

3:30 - 5:00 Afternoon

Topic 4. ICT Environment and Education Digital Domain

-Understand the components that composed an ICT environment and the corresponding digital solutions

-Design the appropriate technology environment that support the effective development and delivery of instruction and learning.

-Perform the start-up skill to run, test and use educational computer software

-Perform the start-up skills to search and communicate inside the Internet


DAY 2:


8:30- 12:00 Morning
Topic 5. ICT-Based Instructional Materials

-Browse to discover the public repository of ICT based instructional materials, and the open web services that are free to use inside and outside of the school.

-Review reference standards on software evaluation and digital content assessment

-Demonstrate the generic process of reviewing and aligning the computer applications and web-based digital content to support the performance specifications for English, Science and Mathematics

-Write a student-centric lesson plan that incorporate the digital activities and content

1:00 - 5:00 Afternoon
Topic 6. The Internet Classroom

-Create and maintain an Internet Classroom where students and teachers are enabled to safely publish, interact, and collaborate inside the web

-Perform formative evaluation through the use of on-line quiz and mail form survey.

TRAINING RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS (Maximum of 50 participants)

-10 computers with networked connection to the Internet
- Ventilated venue to accommodate 10 tables to sit 5 participants each
- LCD Projector
- Sound System
- Software - Windows Operating System, Internet Browser,and OpenDESK Kit
