DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP FOR TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS

Children are getting addicted to surfing the net, blogging, and chat rooms to the point it is becoming a health concern among kids and college age adults. This is leading to an increase in Weight loss surgery like Bariatric surgery and even Heart surgery for a generation that should be out playing on Swing sets and generally healthy. The TV and couch have been replaced by the laptop. The addiction, and it is an addiction, seems to affect all ages, although younger generations are more prone to it since they are on the computer more. So when looking for technological solutions to today's issues, beware the unintended side-affects.

Parental Guidance is still the key. Parents should just keep a safe distance away and inform their children about the overload of trash materials on the net. Banning them from going to undesirable websites wont be 100% effective. Parents also have got to trust their children and train them to make the right decisions, not decide for them. In this generation of texters and surfers, banning or prohibiting is not the effective way. Discussing the pros and cons of these issues is the best way to win respect and your children looking up to you for guidance.
